Current defrost systems often use bulk heating, chemicals, or mechanical removal, leading to slower response and unnecessary heating of the wider structure.
Too slow
Wastes energy
Heats entire structure
Puts critical systems at risk
Betterfrost uses pulsed power control to detect frost, target the boundary layer, and clear surfaces
without heating the full structure. The result is up to 90% faster clearing with up to 90% less energy.
Sense
Detect frost, ice, snow, and fog formation early and accurately.
Target
Focus heat at the interface, about 0.1 mm deep.
Clear
Clear surfaces up to 90% faster using up to 90% less energy.
Why pulsed power control is different
Boundary-layer heating
Pulsed power releases ice from the surface without melting the full mass, because energy is delivered where the bond actually exists.
Heat stays at the surface
Pulsing keeps heat concentrated at the interface instead of letting it escape into the wider structure or environment, enabling ultra-low thermal mass heating.
Built for critical surfaces
Works across conductive materials and components including low-e coated glass, conductive films, intake screens, heat exchangers, aircraft surfaces, and wind turbine rotors.
LAYER OF ICE
↓ ~0.1 mm bond zone
SURFACE

Instant Response
Detects and removes ice immediately

Precision Heating
Heats only the 0.1 mm surface layer

Energy Efficient
No bulk heating, no wasted energy

Non-Destructive
Releases ice without full melting
Betterfrost brings targeted thermal protection to infrastructure
where uptime, efficiency, and performance matter most.
Automotive / EV
Reclaim up to 38 km of range in sub-zero conditions with ultra-efficient defrost and defog.
We started Betterfrost to rethink how critical surfaces are protected in extreme conditions.
Our team combines research, product, and commercialization experience to bring that
work to market.
